Weizenbaum-Institut e.V.
The Weizenbaum Institute is a joint project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It was founded in Berlin in 2017 and researches the interactions between
digitalisation and society. The focus is on investigating current and long-term social changes that are emerging in connection with digitalisation. Scientists from the social sciences,
economics, law, design research and computer science work together and bring their knowledge to politics, business and society. The guiding values of the institute, which is funded by the
Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), are self-determination and sustainability in the digital society.
The following are members of the association: Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Universität der Künste Berlin, Universität Potsdam,
the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS) and the Social Science Research Centre Berlin (WZB). The Weizenbaum-Institut e.V. is responsible for the central
administration and legal representation of the institute.
For our research group „Digitalization, Sustainability, and Participation“ at the Weizenbaum-Institut e.V., as of 1 September 2024 we are looking for a
Student assistant (m/f/d) for the short project „Informational Sustainability”
with 10 hours per week. The position is initially limited until 14th september 2025. Further employment will be sought and is dependent on further funding approval.
Working field:
The research groups „Digitalization, Sustainability and Participation”, „Digitalization and Networked Security” and „Technology, Power and Domination” are looking for project support for
the short project „Informational Sustainability”. This includes, on the one hand, extensive literature research on the relationship between information and sustainability at the interface
of social and computer sciences and, on the other hand, work as a communicative link between the project participants. The latter will be reflected above all in the organization of two
workshops, the project documentation (creation of a „white paper”) and the coordination of internal working groups. The aim of the short project „Informational Sustainability” is to
formulate a research program that examines the co-constitutive relationship between digitalization and sustainability with an explicit focus on the sustainability of information
infrastructures.
Your tasks:
Supporting the research groups in the implementation of the temporary project „Informational Sustainability”
Research and preparation of academic literature in English and German
Organization of workshops with external participants
Coordination of internal information flow between different working groups
Support in the preparation of the „White Paper”
Requirements:
Studies (ongoing) in the humanities and/or social sciences or a technical degree program, in each case with an explicit interest in interdisciplinary work
Very good written and spoken English; knowledge of German is an advantage
Good IT skills (common Office programs); confident handling of citation and text creation programs; knowledge of Nextcloud is an advantage
Experience in the application of qualitative research methods, especially document analysis
Experience in the organization of events and workshops
Systematic work, organizational and teamwork skills
